(NOTE: If the game goes into OT, I will write a separate live blog for that.)

Florida to recieve to start the 2nd half.

Returned from the 6, out to the 28.

Chris Myers of FOX says that Tebow felt "out of his comfort zone" in the 2nd half.

Florida looks BAD running the ball, if they're gonna win Tebow needs to get comfy and throw some completions (especially for TDs).

Florida punt, and OU will start their first drive of the 2nd half on their own 11 yard line.

Iglesias can't quite make the catch. 3rd and 10.

OU takes their 1st timeout of the half, 2 remaining with 11:15 left in the 3rd quarter.

(Blogger note: Just saw the Gatorade commercial with Lil Wayne's voice over. Pretty good commercial if you ask me.)

Tebow FINALLY gets his UF fans fired up with his run for a 1st down. 8:10 left in the 3rd.

Tebow with about a 15-yard QB draw, 1st and 10 at the OU 31.

Tebow incompletion to Murphy, it's gonna be 2nd and 10, and Murphy is down and looks hurt. Nice call by Dan Mullen, the Florida OC in his final game with UF (He'll become Mississippi State's HC after this game.) He caught UF's only TD so far tonight.

Harvin can't make the catch, nice breakup by OU's defense. 3rd and 10.

Tebow runs into the red zone, 1st and 10 on the OU 19.

DROPPED IN THE ENDZONE, incomplete and it's 3rd and goal for Florida on the OU 2.

TOUCHDOWN FLORIDA! Florida runs the Wildcat with Percy Harvin and he'll run the direct snap in from 2 yards out. 14-7 UF.

Quentin Cheney with the reception at midfield. 1st down OU.

Iglesias with the reception, out of bounds at the UF 35. 1st down.

And that's #9. UF blocks the 49-yard FG by Oklahoma, and it will be Florida's ball at their own 33.

Louis Murphy supposedly has a "severe knee injury", according to Chris Myers. (UPDATE: He's headed to the locker room.)

Harvin looks very good right now for how injured he is.

So at the end of the 3rd, it's Florida 14, Oklahoma 7.

I have to leave, have a good rest of the night. Congratulations to the National Champion, whoever that may be.

BCS National Championship Game Live Blog, 1st half

Florida vs. Oklahoma tonight, I'll update as quick as possible. Comment if you have anything that you would like to be featured in the blog.

Ball kicked off, returned by OU. First play by OU doesn't look good, stopped behind the line.

It's been 1 minute and we already have a booth review. We could really be in for a long night.

What a hit. All I can say, one of the hardest hits this year easily

First sack of the game, Florida brings some good pressure and Sam Bradford goes down. 3RD AND 24.

Percy Harvin sure didn't seem like he had a high ankle sprain on that last play. Really broke out there.

It's been about 15 minutes since the game started and we now have 2 booth reviews. This is definitely interesting. (UPDATE: Actually, they'll just reset the game clock; NO BOOTH REVIEW.)

INTERCEPTION- Nick Harris gets it from Tebow on the right sideline, down on the Sooner 47. 3rd interception on the season for Harris.

Big catch by Jermaine Gresham at the Gator 5, but a penalty by Duke Robinson (2nd of the drive) brings it back.

Florida comes out in the Wildcat, Brent Musburger of ESPN Radio calls Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown "Tim Brown".

Seems like Oklahoma is stopping the Florida inside running game.

End of 1st quarter, score is 0-0.

OU brings good pressure to Tebow, he doesn't start off this quarter too well.

TOUCHDOWN FLORIDA! 80-yard TD reception for Louis Murphy, fumbled after ball crosses the plane. 7-0 Florida, 14:02 left in the 2nd.

Chris Brown with a rush to the Florida 35.

Another nice run by Brown, he is smacking the Gator defense in the face, now in the red zone.

1st and Goal OU, Bradford completion to the UF 6.

TOUCHDOWN OKLAHOMA! 6-yard TD reception for Jermaine Gresham. We're tied at 7-7, 11:49 left in the 2nd.

INTERCEPTION #2- Gerald McCoy gets the interception on the Zone Blitz. Down on the UF 26.

Chris Brown out of bounds, 1st and Goal OU.

Brown to the right, down at the 4. 2nd and goal.

UF ball, Harvin with a nice run to midfield.

Florida punt, OU will have the ball at their own 20 with 2:32 to go in the 2nd.

Juaquin Iglesias with the nice catch, Bradford with a beautiful throw, they'll have the ball at midfield.

OU in UF territory, less than 1:30 to go.

OU timeout, they'll have 1 timeout left with :47 to go in the 1st half.

:31 to go, OU in Florida territory.

Good decision by Bradford, just throwing it away.

1st and Goal OU, ball on the Florida 6. :10 left in the 1st half.

Batted in the air, the ball bounces around...

WHAT AN AMAZING BOBBLING INTERCEPTION FOR MAJOR WHITE! Amazing, these 2 QBs both had 8 INTs combined before tonight; tonight they have 3 combined.

And at halftime, we don't have our expected shootout. OU 7, Florida 7.

Florida will get the ball to start the 2nd half.

Quick Picks (part 3)

Sorry I couldn't get my blog post in yesterday as planned. I'll be heading to Hockeytown for Christmas this year, and I don't have much time to analyze, so I'll just list my picks:

Poinsettia: TCU
Hawaii: Hawaii
Motor City: Central Michigan
Champs Sports: Florida State
Meineke Car Care: West Virginia
Emerald: Miami
Independence: Northern Illinois
PapaJohn's.com: NC State
Alamo: Missouri

I'll be back on the 27th, see you then!

Record as of 2:30pm ET, December 26th: 2-5

Bowl Picks (part 2 of 7)

I had a bad start on my bowl picks yesterday, going 1-3, with my only correct pick being South Florida beating Memphis in the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl. Today, in Part 2, I'll be going over the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and the (long name) San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Yesterday showed that this will be an interesting bowl season, so get ready for Part 2!

R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Southern Miss heads to the New Orleans Bowl for the third time since 2003. Southern Miss started off the season losing 6 of their first 8, but then went on a 4-game winning streak and finished at 6-6. Troy is finally the outright Sun Belt Conference Champion after sharing the title the last 2 years. Southern Miss's signature win came 21-3 over East Carolina, and then became bowl-eligible by beating SMU. Troy played a nice game against Ohio State; however, though they lost 28-10. Troy has not played very well in Louisiana, though. They blew a 28 point lead to LSU earlier this year, and also lost a 31-30 game to Louisiana-Monroe. Troy's 8-4 record can be decieving though. They lost the Louisiana-Monroe game (mentioned above) after having a 56-yard FG hit the crossbar, and if they hadn't blown their 28 point lead to LSU (they eventually lost 40-31), they would be a very solid 10-2. 3 of their 4 losses came against bowl teams (Ohio State, Oklahoma State, LSU).

My pick: Troy. They score more points and give up less per game then Southern Miss does. Troy has also played competitively against teams like LSU and Ohio State. Unless Southern Miss does something ridiculous, this is Troy's game.

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
When I look at the matchup for the Poinsettia Bowl, I see two very good teams combining to create a GREAT bowl matchup. This is the first ranked vs. ranked bowl game of the year. #9 Boise State and their high-scoring offense faces one of the best defenses in the country in #11 TCU. This may possibly be the best non-BCS matchup in the country this bowl season. TCU's offense and Boise State's defense seemed to improve towards the end of the year, and I feel this is the best non-BCS matchup in the country this year.

My Pick: Call me crazy, but I'm going with TCU in this game. Boise State has wins over Oregon, Southern Miss, and Fresno State, but didn't do very well against a Nevada squad that went 7-5 (and will be playing Maryland in a bowl game). TCU's only 2 losses also came against #2 Oklahoma and an at-large BCS team in Utah. I feel TCU's defense prevails over the Boise State offense and takes the Poinsettia Bowl victory back to Fort Worth.

Record as of 10:19pm ET, December 24th: 2-4

BOWLS BEING PREVIEWED TOMORROW
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl: Notre Dame vs. Hawaii
Motor City Bowl: FAU vs. Central Michigan
Meineke Car Care Bowl: West Virginia vs. North Carolina
Champs Sports Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Florida State
Emerald: Miami vs. California
Independence Bowl: Northern Illinois vs. Louisiana Tech

COLLEGE BOWL PREVIEW! More than 2 months have passed since I blogged. (Christmas Eve would make it 3.) I have decided that I would like to blog again and renew my committment (as was originally stated when I was picked to be a blogger) to blog once a week.

My first post back will be on College Bowls; I'll be getting these in day-by-day (and will be cramming all of the bowls from the 22nd through the 27th on into one post; I'll be gone all of these days most likely.)

Anyway, let's get started with my bowl picks!

EagleBank Bowl and New Mexico Bowl: These games have already started or have ended, so I will not be analyzing either of them. (I originally picked Navy and Fresno State; they both lost.)

magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl
South Florida (otherwise known as USF) and Memphis square off at Tropicana Field (home of the Tampa Bay Rays) for the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl. USF failed to impress many, including myself. USF had finished 9-4 for the last 2 years and had an impressive team last year, getting as high as #2 in the BCS Rankings. They ended up starting out the season quite hot; they got up into the Top 10 and started out 5-0. However, they lost 5 of their last 7 games, and finished at a final record of 7-5. In Memphis, there is an impressive running back in Chris Steele. Steele had a very impressive year for the Tigers, finishing with over 1,000 yards. I feel this could be a very interesting matchup in St. Petersburg.

My Pick: I feel that this is USF's game. Memphis only beat one bowl team in Southern Miss, while USF beat 3. USF's defense just seems too good for Memphis, and I feel this is a game that Memphis will eventually lose. Also factoring in will be USF's essentially home-field advantage, considering the game is being played about 35 miles away from their home stadium (Raymond James Stadium).

Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl
The two teams playing in the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl are very different. BYU has made its 4th straight trip to Las Vegas for this bowl game, and their 5th bowl this decade. Arizona, meanwhile, has never been to the Las Vegas bowl, and hasn't even BEEN to a bowl in 10 years (the 1998 Holiday Bowl, where they beat Nebraska, 23-20). Max Hall is leading an explosive BYU offense and Willie Tuitama leads an Arizona team at QB. However, Arizona hasn't done well on the road this year and BYU hasn't seemed to show up all that much in big games.

My Pick: I have to go with BYU in this game. They're used to the bowl environment, and they just seem like a better team. Arizona has a good team, but they haven't come up in hostile environments or against good teams (Arizona's losses coming to New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, USC, and Stanford; Arizona has only beaten one bowl team in Cal while BYU has beaten 2 bowl teams in Colorado State and Air Force; both of their losses have come on the road against ranked teams- TCU and Utah). I will be watching this game tonight out of the 2 that are left.

Record at end of night: 1-3

An Announcement from Brewcrew

This blog post is not going to be about sports. This is a call-out to whoever is doing what I'm about to talk about.

Someone/some people are posting other people's names and personal info on here and spamming the boards. You may think it's a joke and it's so funny. IT'S NOT! Some people do not want their names being out there and especially being leaked by someone else.

Whoever is posting this, please PM me on Reb's and I can try to work out a solution with you. PLEASE STOP posting personal info on the boards.

My name isn't out on the boards (luckily) and I'm glad it's not. But some of my friends on this site and on Reb's site are having their personal info leaked, and most importantly, their privacy invaded.

PLEASE STOP POSTING INFO ON THE BOARDS!

Here we go!!!!!!!

1) San Diego Chargers: I have a feeling the Chargers will be special this year. They've essentially taken baby steps, going from Wild Card to Divisional, Divisional to AFC Championship Game. I think this is maybe the year the Chargers go from AFC Championship to Super Bowl. (Again, not a pick for it. Just a point; i'm coming out with the playoff picks before this Sunday.) LT, Gates, Rivers, Jackson, and Chambers could all have good-great seasons this year. I'm a little concerned about the defense with Merriman playing with 2 torn ligaments. This is a great team, and I think they could make the jump this year.
2) Denver Broncos: This could be a good or bad season in Denver. Brandon Marshall is injured, Jay Cutler was diagnosed with diabetes, and there's a shaky D-line in Denver. However, Selvin Young, I think, will have a breakout year. Shanahan's offenses usually tend to produce 1,000 yard rushers. Champ Bailey leads a strong secondary, even with losing John Lynch. It could be playoffs or no playoffs in Denver.
3) Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs are now finding there's a youth movement in town. Glen Dorsey, Branden Albert, and Brandon Flowers are 3 rookie starters. Brodie Croyle and Larry Johnson somewhat concern me. Tony Gonzalez doesn't though. He's proven over his 11 seasons he is an ironman. (FACT: He's only missed 2 games in those 11 seasons.) The defense, losing Jared Allen, is another big concern for me. The Chiefs miss the playoffs, but I like the youth movement, and they'll make it in a few years.
4) Oakland Raiders: I don't know what to say about this team. JaMarcus Russell doesn't seem like he's got a good WR corps around him. I like D-Mac, but I don't know if he'll make an impact this year. They didn't seem to improve the defense except by aquiring DeAngelo Hall. It's gonna be another long year in Oakland, and it'll stay that way until Al Davis goes out and improves that defense.

2008 NFL Preview: AFC South (part 3 of 8)

A tribute: RIP Gene Upshaw. I think he was the man who made the NFL what it is today, and as a tribute to him, let's all get Raiders avatars and use them for the next week. (Thanks to gmoney for the original idea)

The AFC South Preview starts NOW!!!!!

1) Indianapolis Colts: Indianapolis is emerging from last season's 13-3 record and playoff loss to the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. Marvin Harrison is now 36 and is coming off a knee injury, Dwight Freeney is coming off a foot injry, and the team also let go of Ben Utecht (who signed with the Bengals). Peyton Manning is reeling off of surgery to remove a infected bursa sac, though he should be ready to go for the regular season, which is great news for Colts fans. Reggie Wayne, in my mind, will have an absolute monster year, along with TE Dallas Clark. Bob Sanders, also coming off an injury, will be the key to the secondary. Jacksonville is also looking very good this year, and for the Colts to repeat for the 5th year in a row, they'll have to be great. I see the Colts being great, winning the South in a close division race.
2) Jacksonville Jaguars: Jacksonville looks to be a very good team this year, with no big losses on either side of the ball. The Jags also gained Florida DE Derrick Harvey in the draft, along with Chargers free agent CB Drayton Florence. Offense shouldn't be a problem, with Maurice Jones-Drew returning along with Fred Taylor, who has finally gotten the credit he deserves. David Garrard played very well last season, and while his passing yards may not have shown it, his game stats did. He'll need to do the same this year for the Jags to compete for a crown. The Jags look well rounded this year, but they've got a little work to do to win the division.
3) Tennessee Titans: Last year, the Titans edged out the Browns for the last Wild Card spot. The Titans look to rebound on that and go farther into the playoffs this year. Vince Young really struggled, and for this team to have a chance at the playoffs again, he'll need to blossom. Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch look good on the D-line, and with Thornton's return, look for the Titans in low scoring games. LenDale White had an impressive season and will get many of the carries. The Titans will come up a game or two short of the playoffs, but I think 10-11 wins is possibly realistic.
4) Houston Texans: Houston is a team, in my mind, that could be very good in a year or two. Okoye, Ryans, and Williams are all great defensive players and haven't even reached their prime. Steve Slaton was a amazing tailback at West Virginia and may steal some of Ahman Green's thunder in Houston. Matt Schaub is a good QB, and would've had a nice season (IMO) if he wouldn't have been injured. Duane Brown was a nice draft pick. Kevin Walter is a target to watch, and Andre Johnson is one of the best recievers in the division. I may be going somewhat out on a limb, but I think we could see 9-11 wins from this Texan team.

There's a chance I'll get a blog post in tomorrow (don't count on it though).....if I can't then the AFC will be finished on Wednesday, as I'll be on vacation from tomorrow morning until late Wednesday afternoon.

For future plans, I am starting the What's Brewing? Mailbag. Leave your comments and I'll answer all the questions I can.

2008 NFL Preview: AFC North (part 2 of 8)

Now, we move on to the AFC North, the home of the Steelers, Browns, Ravens, and Bengals. Here's my picks.

1) Cleveland Browns: The Browns definitely surprised most of the NFL last year, going 10-6, their best record since 1994. Derek Anderson had a great year, along with Joe Thomas and Jamal Lewis. Braylon Edwards, Donte' Stallworth, and Kellen Winslow are all great recievers. Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams will be 2 key additions to the D-Line. The offensive line is one of the NFL's best. Anderson is only going to get better as a player. My only concern with them is their secondary, with Eric Wright as the one of the main CBs, along with another 2nd year player. If the Browns defense can play a lot better then they did last season, which I think they will, I definitely see a division title back in Cleveland.
2) Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers are coming off of another AFC North championship, and things are also looking to get better. Ben Roethlisberger had a nice year, throwing for a career-high 32 TDs. Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall are two talented RBs that could make a big difference for this team. I'm concerned with the Steelers' safeties and their O-line after losing Alan Feneca to the Jets. The Steelers have been projected having the toughest schedule in the NFL (combined winning percentage: .598), and that may be what holds the Steelers short of a division crown.
3) Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens bring in a new head coach in John Harbaugh, the former Eagles DB and special teams coach after firing new FOX NFL analyst Brian Billick. The Ravens have also brought in a new QB in Delaware product Joe Flacco. He'll battle 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, and Kyle Boller for the starting job. I think the defense can improve this season. Ray Lewis is getting older and is out of his prime. Jonathan Ogden, who I consider the greatest OT of our generation, is now retired. The offense will prevent any chance of the Ravens going to the playoffs this season.
4) Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals will be a bit different this season, losing Odell Thurman, Madieu Williams, and Justin Smith. Rudi Johnson will need to make a comeback after his injury-filled season in 2007. Chad Johnson is still unhappy with his contract, and could possibly divide the locker room along with wrecking team chemistry. That's just Ocho Cinco being Ocho Cinco. On the bright side, Carson Palmer is a great QB, along with the O-line, and TJ Houshmanzadeh continuing to be a top WR in the AFC (even with being overshadowed by Ocho Cinco). I think the defense keeps the Bengals out of the AFC North division race.

2008 NFL Preview: AFC East (part 1 of 8)

It's August, and that means it's time for my NFL Preview! I'll be talking about my picks for the upcoming year in the NFL, and Michael Phelps. It's all here in my 3rd post! It's also the first post under the name, What's Brewing?

Michael Phelps is now an American hero after his INCREDIBLE performance at the Water Cube. 8 gold medals is just absolutely ridiculous. It's amazing if someone wins 3 or 4 gold medals, but 8!? That's just amazing. As of today, Michael has more gold medals then 64 countries have total from these Olympics (if I counted right). He has more gold medals than every country has recieved in these games except for 7 (not including the US). It's mind-boggling how amazing he is. Congratulations, Michael.

Now, onto my NFL preview; I'll be splitting it up into 8 posts until September 1st at the latest. That means 8 separate blog posts. I'll go in this order with both conferences: East, North, South, West. AFC is first. So here we go, the AFC East:

1) New England Patriots: The team that blew it last year in the Super Bowl won't have that opportunity this year. Expect them to dominate the division, with Brady, Moss, Welker, and Maroney. Harrison and Lynch may be getting old, but they're still two of the best safeties in the game. Holes at cornerback and defending the pass rush on the O-line won't make them Super Bowl XLIII winners this year.
2) New York Jets: Brett Favre was a huge acquisition for this team, and it will improve them, but not enough to make the playoffs. I see them contending for the playoffs, but towards the end of the season, the Jets playoff hopes will be gone in a New York minute.
3) Buffalo Bills: The Bills are my sleeper team. Trent Edwards definitely has potential, and with big WR James Hardy and Lee Evans (a Wisconsin grad!), along with RB Marshawn Lynch and a good defense, this team definitely has potential to be in the playoffs this year.
4) Miami Dolphins: Expectations for this team are low in Miami after their 1-15 season, the first since 2000's San Diego Chargers. Chad Pennington is the new starter at QB, while John Beck may be the odd man out in Miami. Look for Pennington to make this team at least 2 or 3 wins better, but don't expect playoffs from the Dolphins for a few years.

That's all for Part 1 of my 2008 NFL Preview. See ya tomorrow!

BLOG CONTEST WINNER + MORE!

Post #2 today! We will have the blog name winner announcement in this post. I'll be changing the blog name one week from today so the finalists in the contest can be surprised. Anyway, I'll sound off on Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Madden NFL 09 (Yes, I've played it) and the Olympics today. So let's get it started!

Brett Favre, I hope you're happy now. Getting traded to the Jets, a team that you might lead to an 8-8 record. Let me tell you this, Brett. Fans in New York ARE NOT PATIENT. THEY WON'T BE PATIENT. You will come under scrutiny if you are bad and don't make this team any better, whether it's from Mike and the Mad Dog (BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: The Mad Dog has just been dropped, sounds like this program will be off the air), Mike and Mike in the Morning, the NY media, or the Jets fans. (Giants fans, on the other hand might be happy to see you falter.) I thought you were a classy superstar, who wasn't selfish and played just to win. Turns out you were the opposite, Brett. You let me down. You let the State of Wisconsin down. You let almost every Packer fan down. You handled this in the worst way possible. (Ted Thompson, who I HATE, did too, but still.) There's enough blame to go around.

Aaron Rodgers, on the other hand, was impressive in his first preseason game. He went through 4 drives (all against the first-team defense), going 9 for 15 with 117 yards and a 30yd TD to James Jones (whose helmet got knocked off in the process). He seems like a classy guy, who can get a little angry, but can handle pressure situations. Look at the Favre-Packer divorce drama. He was calm, cool, and collected. Just shows his persona.

I have managed to get a copy of Madden in my hands. (I have my own, personal copy now; it was delivered around 3pm ET 8/13) Here's what I like and don't like:

What I Like:
-EA Sports Rewind: Essentially, it lets you rewind your last play if you mess up. You can have I think up to 5 or none at all.
-Broadcast Presentation: The graphics of the broadcast look pretty real, authentic replay breakdown system, Cris Collinsworth with great analysis.
-Madden IQ: This essentially sets your own skill level. It's easier to slip your Madden IQ then to bring it up in my case.

What I Don't Like:
-Broadcast Presentation: Tom Hammond is very boring with his play-by-play calls. He doesn't get excited and never sounds really into the game, IMO.
-Music: I'm not a really big fan of the music on the game. IDK why.

If I had to rate it, I'd probably give it between an 8 and 9.

Wow. The Olympics are probably one of the greatest sporting events there are. It doesn't matter what country you're from. It's about world unity and for 2 shining weeks, we all come together and put aside our fighting. It's about peace, unity, and pride. The moments from this year's Olympics haven't been all that bad either. I'll get into detail in around 2 weeks.

I'm gladly about to announce the winner of the Brewcrew1982 Blog Name Contest.
I was between a couple of blog names and I finally narrowed it down. The winner of the Blog Name Contest is..........................................................

Bbarbour24 and his entry of What's Brewing?

I'd like to thank everyone who submitted over 50 blog names. (Including 15-20 by Lester. Holy cow!)

That's all for this week's edition of Sports Nation. Next week, we move into the What's Brewing era of this blog. Goodbye for now.

First Post

Welcome to my blog, Sports Nation. I'd just like to take the time to explain a little bit about Sports Nation. I'll be sounding off on the biggest sports topics out there, whether it's Favregate or the NL and AL or even the transfer market in soccer. (OK, probably not the last one, but you never know if some player will get transferred over here to the States.) I'm gonna start off today with Brett Favre, and I'll also be talking about a contest I'll be having involving this blog.

First off, it's Brett Favre. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated him today, and Favre will fly there tonight. His flight should arrive around 8pm ET. But my whole opinion on this? Being a Packer fan, I could go on for days about this. I never have liked Packers GM Ted Thompson. I used to really like Favre. Now, I have lost about any little drop of respect for Thompson that I had. My respect for Favre has gone down too. I think they've been treating each other wrong and they're making the story bigger and bigger day by day. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that Favre will be competing for the starting job. To me, I say that's one of two things:

1) The Packers front office is just saying this. Rodgers will easily "win the starting job".

2) The Packers are being truthful and they'll actually have a competiton for the starting job.

I personally see it as #1. I don't trust Ted Thompson enough to believe him. I believe Favre's streak comes to a close, and he will not be starting on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings.

(UPDATE 11:07am ET 8/5/08- Fox Sports is reporting that Favre told the team an open competition isn't what's right, making Aaron Rodgers the Packer starter. We'll see more out of Mike McCarthy's press conference, which I'm guessing will be on ESPNEWS this morning.)

I mentioned a contest earlier. That contest is about the name of this blog. I don't really know if I want to keep Sports Nation as the name. So I'm asking you to help me. I'll take your opinions, put together a poll of the names that I like, and you can help me pick. The member that comes up with the winning name gets their name in this blog.

Two special shoutouts:

First one to Soccerstud, who I think had the most congratulatory posts/threads I've ever seen.

Second to numberten, the first voter in my first poll. (If you want to vote, the thread is called First Poll.)

That's all for this week. Good luck with the blog name contest!
